New books for the beginning of Autumn…
Four new books have come across our desk in the last couple of days – three of them the continuation of popular series and one of them a collection of the latest genre sensation of ‘Steampunk’.
Robert Muchamore’s popular Cherub series has now been made into a graphic novel and the first volume of ‘The Recruit’ has just come in. The back has a warning of not suitable for younger readers and I would have to agree as it is fairly violent.
Richelle Mead’s ‘Bloodlines’ series second volume (a massive 418 pages long with a sneak peak of volume three) The Golden Lily, has just come out. It follows Sydney as she is tasked with protexcting a Moroi princess from assassination. There is the obligatory love triangle, shocking secrets and magical vampires.
The Second Forever by Colin Thompson follows on from How to live forever – this time Peter and Festival have to re-create the evil immortality book in order to save their worlds.
Steampunk is the latest literary craze – it is a subgenre of science fiction and fantasy with technology following the path of the steam engine and everyone wearing Victorian inspired clothing. Steampunk: an anthology of fantastically rich and strange stories has a collection of stories set in this world by a number of bestselling authors.
